HONG KONG - Organizers of the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival are looking for a new jury chairman after the sudden death of Oscar-winning British director Anthony Minghella.

Festival spokeswoman Crystal Yu said organizers haven’t found a replacement yet and are also lining up other jury members for the June event.

“This (Minghella’s death) happened so suddenly. We’re in the process of looking for a replacement,” she told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday.

The Shanghai event announced its selection of Minghella as jury chairman in February.

Minghella died Tuesday in London of a hemorrhage. The British filmmaker’s biggest hit was “The English Patient,” a romantic epic set against the backdrop of World War II that won nine Oscars, including best picture and best director for Minghella.

His other credits include “Cold Mountain” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley.”

Yu said the festival plans to stage a retrospective of Minghella’s works.

The Shanghai festival, which hands out the Jin Jue Award, is scheduled for June 14-22.
